On December 1st the communities living nearest Ebrington gathered to switch on the lights of the first ever Christmas tree on the Parade Ground at Ebrington. Standing 60’ tall, the tree is clearly visible throughout the city.
Ilex’s Chief Executive, Aideen McGinley, outlined the significance of the event, saying: ”Ilex is committed to opening up the Parade Ground and the buildings surrounding it to the public so it’s very fitting that the communities of Browning Drive, Caw/Nelson Drive, Clooney Estate and Bond Street join with us to celebrate the first Christmas tree in Ebrington. This time next year the entire city will be able to access the new Ebrington piazza via the Peace Bridge. In the meantime, we will continue to open the entire site to the public by continuing to give guided tours and by making some buildings available for events.
We would encourage as many people as possible to contact Ilex to request a tour of Ebrington. Only by seeing it at first hand can people really see how important the site is to the regeneration of the city“.
The Christmas tree lights were switched on by Jessica Hudson and Jason Fulton.
Tours of Ebrington can be arranged by ringing Ilex on 028 7126 9226.
