Large crowds gathered outside the City of Culture office on May 20th to give the City of Culture document a big send-off.
There was a real party atmosphere as the bid anthem, Snow Patrol's 'Just Say Yes' filled the air and stilt walkers made their way through the crowds waving large flags.
While the party continued outside, artist Paddy Nelis was busy putting the finishing touches to a special mural in the window of the Culture Office - a silhouette of Maurice Harron's famous Hands Across the Divide sculpture with the City of Culture logo shining bright behind it. A short video showing the mural being drawn can be seen on You Tube.
Oonagh McGillion, a member of the bid team, told the crowds that it was a privilege to deliver the bid to its final destination on behalf of the city.
"We have been overwhelmed by the level of good will in the city and much further afield and we firmly believe we have the winning bid," she said. "On behalf of the City of Culture team I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support".
The next stage of the process will involve a presentation to the judging panel in Liverpool on June 17th. It is expected the winning city will be announced by mid July. If you have yet to register your support please do so by calling into the Culture Office or by logging on to www.cityofculture2013.com, www.facebook/cityofculture or twitter.com/derry2013.
