Summer of Culture

While 2013 will be the official year of the City of Culture celebrations, the bidding process has already proved a catalyst for cultural activity in the city. The 'Culture in the City' programme means that the city is already buzzing with activity throughout summer 2010.

Running until August 29th, 'All the Walls A Stage' programme is bringing spectacular street theatre, top class music, storytelling and interactive workshops to the city’s historic walls. The Street Theatre includes tribal fire performance, dance demonstrations, multi ethnic drumming, stilt walkers and pyromancers.

This years Gasyard Wall Féile kicks off on August 4th. Events include an open air cinema at the Gasyard Park on Monday, August 9th. Musical highlights of the festival include the return of Foyle Folk Festival at Cafe Del Mondo on Saturday, August 7th and 'Wan Big Weekend', an outdoor weekend festival at the Gasyard Park featuring Derry's best bands.

From Friday, July 30th to Thursday August 5th, InterAct Youth Arts Festival & Youth Forum, spearheaded by the Millennium Forum Theatre, offers workshops, film screenings, special guest events, gigs and performances being presented in 11 venues across the city. The Maiden City festival which runs from August 7th - 14th is a flagship celebration of diversity in Northern Ireland. Entirely within and around the Walls of historic Londonderry, the festival spectacularly adds to the celebratory build-up to the Apprentice Boys Association 321st Annual Commemoration of the Relief of Derry, visit: www.maidencityfestival.com

The Amelia Earhart festival is a community festival organised by Greater Shantallow Community Arts from August 8th - 15th. With dance, music, drama, exhibitions, environment, sports, film, etc, there's something for everyone.
