The Football Team is the City's most important ambassador and PR/Marketing tool. Look at the European matches, cup finals and prestige the Club brings to the city. It also creates employment/entertainment and an alternative way of life for many young people.
We need investment in the stadium and the area.. please support brandywell properties and the redevelopment of the brandywell stadium.

The Brandywell is a disgrace and to refer to it as a stadium is layghable...give this city a multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue with DCFC as anchor tennants...lets face it...we're set to be the laughing stock of Europe, facilities wise, this year again..all because we have no choice but use 3rd world Derry City CLOWNCIL facilities.

What is the current state of play with Brandywell properties fundraising drive? The last time I heard anything publicly about finance was about a year ago when the economist Peter Quinn had been hired to promote the case for funding to government. Whats the latest on this?

The Brandyweell is a disgrace by any standard, I do believe that the North does noeed a multipurpose stadium in place and why not up at this end of the country (i.e Not Belfast). We have been neglected as far as investment goes for here, whereas belfast and surrounding areas get the better jobs, infrastructure e.t.c. Now that the maze project is gone why not have a stadium in Derry where there are a number of sites that could be availed of. This is not just for the benefit of Derry City but for the community as a whole where there could be concerts and other entertainment events that could take place in such an arena, which attracts people from outside of this city which has an abvious knowck on effect to boost the local economy. But we are just a small fish here in the North west so what is the point as we won't be listened to!

Everyone concerned at local and national government level should hang your heads in shame. You are very quick to hang on Derry City's coat tails and chin-wag with ambassadors
when times are good and then wash your hands of tough decisions the rest of the time.

I think its vital this City has a sports facility to be proud of. Maybe not Brandywell but somewhere which can attract many visitors to the city, even if it is just for a few hours for a football match or a concert. The fans of Gothenburg and Paris Saint Germain loved the experience and i'm sure i am not the only one who was embarrased to have to play such high profile games in the Brandywell after visiting the Parc des Princes, Ullevi stadium and even Fir Park.
Although I don't live in derry I have been visiting Derry for as long as I can remember. I remember a young boy looking at the derelict terraces of The Brandywell and dreaming of the days that this stadium could be utilised by a reformed Derry City FC. This dream was realised in 1985. Since then I have visited the stadium on numerous occasions and introduced my young son to the delights of Derry City FC. What I cannot understand is that Derry City can not play their matches in a stadium that would make all of the North West of Ireland proud. How humiliating must it be for the likes of DCFC, the organisers of The Foyle Cup etc. to invite the cream of up and coming talant from worldwide to Derry and host them in changing facilities that are the equivelant of what some major clubs had half a century ago. Bear in mind that when DCFC play in Europe there is potential for tourism as some visiting fans may make a return visit.
Is it any wonder that DCFC do not feature too highly in the priorities of the Derry Visitors Bureau? Lets face it The Brandywell may have a great atmosphere but is it not going to grab the attention of visitors unless they have a specific reason to visit such as an interest in DCFC or someone playing an a tournament
Derry is known as the second city but we don't have even a third class stadium for football
our minister for sport is from the city but it seems the money will go to Belfast as usual.
What do we need to do to get some money invested in this project? Our councilors must feel ashamed when visiting teams from Europe come here to play???????
We are the laughing stock of Europe. It was an embarrassment to the city when we had teams play here like Barcelona and PSG. They would have seen better stadiums in 3rd world countries. Derry City got more publicity for this city in 2005 when we went to places like Gothenburg, Glasgow and Paris, than all the adds ot promotions put out by the Tourist Board. Yet we are ignored in our plight to have a decent stadium. This stadium would be a substantial benefit to all in the city, not just the footballing public. We need a renewed effort to force those holding the money purse, to throw some of it Derry's way. Unfortunately to me, it looks like once again we will be shafted, by the Minister for sport, Mr Gregory Campbell. The assembly and the NI Office need to understand that here is life west of the Bann.
Come on people give us something to be proud of, Belfast has been getting everything for far to bloody long!!
The brandywell and fc definitely need a safe and respectable stadium but its not the only priority in local sport development. We need to diversify the sport we offer to ppl. We had an Olympian from coleraine in rowing!? Fix up prehen boathouse let everyone try watersports. We need to support all sports potential just in case there is a phelps, brian o driscoll or lewis Hamilton who is crap at football but never gets a chance to try other sport in school. But aye, athletics, dogs, football stadium would bring people in every weekend and pose as music venue the odd time.
